CIME OBJECTIVES:
The Center for International
Media Education seeks to foster proliferation and understanding
of communication through goals that reflect education, scholarly
research and service provided for media professionals globally.
Specifically, CIME proposes to:
• Continue assisting the Department, College and University
in achieving the strategic goal of internationalizing graduate and
undergraduate teaching and curriculum
• Position the Arab-U.S. Association for Communication Educators
(AUSACE) as the premiere professional educational organization linking
communication faculty and students in the U.S. and the Near East.
• Develop a new professional educational organization, the
China Initiative, linking communication faculty and students in
the U.S. and China.
• Strengthen relationships between communication educators
and media professionals to develop analytical journalism.
• Advance international and intercultural educational cooperation
through formal and informal citizen exchanges and distance learning
• Expand international networking among media educators, media
professionals, and affiliated organizations
• Assist the development of professional journalistic techniques
and
professional responsibility through funded professional workshops,
which have gained additional recognition in the wake of 9/11
• Achieve College and Senate approval for research status
for the center during the next five years by expanding the center’s
current service and teaching mission into the scholarly arena
• Support the publication of global media research through
the advancement of two academic publications: the “Atlanta
Review of Journalism History” and “The Journal of Middle
East Media.”
