| Biography
Alisa Perren (Ph.D., University of Texas, Austin, 2004) is Assistant
Professor, with research specializations in television studies, media
industry studies, and film and television history. She joins the GSU
faculty after teaching at Northeastern University. Perren is completing a manuscript which traces the evolution of Miramax during the 1990s as it transitioned from independent company to studio subsidiary. She is also co-editor of the Media Industry Studies Book, under contract with Blackwell Publishing. She has published articles on the development of niche markets in contemporary Hollywood as well as on the formation of US broadcast and cable networks in the 1990s. Her essays have appeared in Film Quarterly, the Television History Book (BFI 2003), the Journal of Film and Video, and the Handbook of Media Studies (Sage 2005). She has also helped produce short films which have played at festivals across the US. Research Areas: Television studies; Media Industries; Cultural Studies.
