| Biography
Doug Barthlow
(Ph.D., University of Georgia, 1993) is Senior Lecturer,
Director of Undergraduate Studies (for majors in journalism,
film/video, and speech communication), and Internship Director
of the department of communication. Barthlow has strong
experience as a broadcast journalist, having served as a
News and Public Affairs Director for a regional radio station
(WAMX-FM/WCMI-AM) and as News Director for a regional television
station (WOWK-TV). He has served as the producer of the
tennis venue at the Centennial Olympic Games, as trustee
of the Atlanta Press Club Foundation, as a member of the
Media Advisory Committee for the Atlanta Regional Commission,
and as liaison between Georgia State and Georgia Public
Broadcasting. As Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr.
Barthlow oversees the academic progress of the department’s
more than 1600 undergraduate majors. Each year, he places
more than sixty interns in metro-Atlanta’s premiere
telecommunications industries, public relations firms, post-production
houses, non-profit organizations, and state government.
