Presidential
Assistantships
The
Georgia State Presidential Assistant program is designed
to reward highly competitive undergraduate students.
Students with a predicted GPA of 3.0 or higher can
apply to be presidential assistants. If selected,
students can receive $2,000 per academic year for
up to four years.
Presidential
assistants have a unique opportunity to work with
faculty in their area of career interest. A sampling
of the experiences available to previous presidential
assistants in the Department of Communication include:
-
Functioning as a laboratory assistant in the
Digital Arts and Entertainment Laboratory. The
Department’s high-end digital production and
post-production facility is reserved for graduate
student use only. Nevertheless, residential assistants
interested in film/video as a career area have been
offered access and opportunities to work with equipment.
- Serving
as a legislative intern with the Georgia
General Assembly. Presidential assistants interested
in public relations as a career path have worked
on alumni relations, special events planning, and
capped off their experience by working for the state
legislature.
- Serving
as stage managers for GSU
theatrical productions. Presidential assistants
working in the theatre area have worked behind the
scenes on set design, lighting design, and other
aspects of technical theatre, with an ultimate assignment
as stage manager of a GSU production.
- Serving
as assistants in the Center
for International Media Education. Presidential
assistants help coordinate the World Media Forums
that bring more than 60 international journalists
to campus each year.
