Master of Arts Degree in Communication

Each student may select an area of concentration from the following:

Mass Communication Emphasis

Students in the mass communication emphasis study the history, theory, legal, ethical, economic and political aspects of the mass media. Students have the option of focusing on domestic media, international media or a combination of both. Students who are interested in public relations as it relates to mass audiences focus in the mass communication emphasis.

Human Communication and Social Influence Emphasis

Students in the human communication and social influence track study the origination, dissemination, and analysis of interpersonal communication and public discourse. Students have access to faculty working with communication targeting international, national, corporate, and domestic subgroups.

Film/Video and Digital Imaging Emphasis

Students in the film/video/digital imaging track can choose to study digital production, screenwriting, or film history/theory. Within the context of a communication degree, production students learn the aesthetic principles and technical skills required to do digital video and film production. Access to high-end laboratory facilities allows production students to create polished student portfolio projects. Screenwriting students learn the principles for creating feature screenplays. Film history/theory students examine aesthetic, social/cultural, and economic approaches to the history and theory of cinema.
