Master
of Arts Degree in Communication
Each
student may select an area of concentration from the
following:
Mass
Communication Emphasis
Students
in the mass communication emphasis study the history,
theory, legal, ethical, economic and political aspects
of the mass media. Students have the option of focusing
on domestic media, international media or a combination
of both. Students who are interested in public relations
as it relates to mass audiences focus in the mass
communication emphasis.
Human
Communication and Social Influence Emphasis
Students
in the human communication and social influence track
study the origination, dissemination, and analysis
of interpersonal communication and public discourse.
Students have access to faculty working with communication
targeting international, national, corporate, and
domestic subgroups.
Film/Video
and Digital Imaging Emphasis
Students
in the film/video/digital imaging track can choose
to study digital production, screenwriting, or film
history/theory. Within the context of a communication
degree, production students learn the aesthetic principles
and technical skills required to do digital video
and film production. Access to high-end laboratory
facilities allows production students to create polished
student portfolio projects. Screenwriting students
learn the principles for creating feature screenplays.
Film history/theory students examine aesthetic, social/cultural,
and economic approaches to the history and theory
of cinema.
